Men’s Tennis Falls to No. 6 Columbus State; 9-0

ANDERSON, S.C. – Anderson University men's tennis suffered its first defeat of the season, 9-0, at the hands of nationally ranked No. 6 Columbus State Saturday afternoon at the AU Tennis Complex.

With the loss, Anderson slips to 4-1 on the season while Columbus State improves to 2-0.

In doubles action, playing at the No. 1 position, KP Pannu and Zach Whaanga won by default over Ignacio Bidegain and Jeffrey Dayton. Bidegain suffered a leg injury with AU down 4-3 and could not continue. Columbus State's Matei Avram and Maciej Kierkus defeated Nicolas Ascarrunz and Preston Morpeth, 8-2, at the No. 2 slot. The Cougars No. 3 tandem of Shao-Yu Yu and Jorge Vargas won, 8-6, in a hard fought battle over Juan Carracedo and Jerry Price.

The Cougars picked up all six singles matches in straight sets to earn the, 9-0, victory over the Trojans.

Anderson returns to action on Thursday when it hosts South Atlantic Conference opponent Catawba. First serve is slated for 2 p.m.
