GREENWOOD, S.C. – The Anderson University baseball team wrapped up a four-game road swing with a 17-4 nonconference setback to Lander, Thursday evening at Dolny Stadium.

Anderson fell to 6-18 on the season, while Lander improved to 10-13 with its second consecutive victory.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Centerfielder William Thomas recorded two of the Trojans' six hits on the day, with a pair of singles and also drove in a run. Senior Stephen McKnight added a seventh-inning double and scored once, while junior Tyler Miller reached base four times in five trips to the plate. The Anderson, S.C., native notched an RBI-single in the seventh, while also drawing a walk and was hit by a pitch in the fifth inning.

Senior Thomas Smith (0-3) absorbed the loss after surrendering five runs on six hits in three innings on the mound. The right-hander struck out two and walked two.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bearcats grabbed an early 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning, while AU cut the deficit in half with a run in the top of the third inning. Miller led off with a walk and moved into scoring position when Avery Green bounced out to the left side. He went to third on a wild pitch and crossed the plate on Thomas' second single of the game.

Lander opened a 7-1 lead with three runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth, while putting the game out of reach with a six-run sixth inning.

The Trojans posted three runs in the top of the seventh, when McKnight led off by pulling his first double of the season to right field. Miller brought him home with a one-out single to right and went to second when freshman Avery Green reached on a walk. Sophomore Carson Barrett posted a two-out single to right that brought home Miller, while Green crossed the plate on an error.

Lander countered with four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to wrap up the scoring.
