Trojans Pick Up Big Win at Mars Hill; 2-1

MARS HILL, N.C. – With South Atlantic Conference postseason play lurking around the corner, the Anderson University men's soccer team won an important match-up, 2-1 over Mars Hill on Saturday afternoon at Meares Stadium.

With the victory, the Trojans close out regular season play with a 8-7-1 overall and 6-5-1 record in conference action while the Lions fall to 5-7-2 overall and 4-4-2 in SAC play.

Freshman Thomas Joergsholm was able to get the Trojans on the board first with a goal in the 20th minute. Joergsholm used the through ball from junior Cameron Emerson to beat the keeper inside the left post.

Mars Hill scored the equalizer just inside the final minutes of the first half on Joakim Lien's third goal of the season.

Anderson sophomore Myles Duncan provided the game-winner in the 80th minute after using the cross by freshman Oriol Gomez.

The Trojans outshot Mars Hill 14-11 overall with an 8-2 advantage in the second half. The Lions claimed the corner kick advantage, 7-3.

Anderson freshman keeper Gal Elyashiv recorded two saves on the day on his way to an overall regular season record of 8-4-1 between the posts.

The Trojans await the final seeding's as all the other members of the SAC finish up regular season play later this evening.

The SAC Tournament quarterfinal round is set to begin on Tuesday, Oct. 31 at the higher seeds home field.
