Seniors Shine as Trojans Secure the Third Place Slot in the South Atlantic Conference Standings

 

ANDERSON, S.C. – The Anderson University women's basketball 2018 seniors each played their respective role helping the Trojans to victory while keeping sole possession of third place in the SAC standings defeating Coker, 75-55, on Saturday afternoon at the Abney Athletic Center.

Anderson improved to 19-9 overall and 13-7 in conference play while Coker drops to 8-18 overall and 5-15 in SAC action.

Fifth year senior, Alexis Dillard scored 13 points while ripping down 12 rebounds. Dillard's double-double was the ninth of the season and 21st of her career. Senior guard Jasmine Raynor finished the game with nine points, four rebounds and two assists while senior forward Kaylee Koerperich chipped in five points, grabbed five rebounds and dished out three assists.

Leading the Trojans with a team-high 14 points was sophomore Alexy Mollenhauer. Mollenhauer was 6-of-13 from the floor in 28 minutes of action. Junior reserve Ace Easter netted 13 points and three rebounds while hitting 7-of-8 from the free throw line.

Coker placed two players in double-figures with Sydney Shull scoring a game-high 15 points. Hayley Kropp dropped in 11 points for the Cobras.

Anderson dominated play in the first period outscoring the Cobras, 27-13. Raynor's layup with 1:06 remaining gave the Trojans an 18 point advantage before Coker closed out the quarter with four straight points.

The Trojans led by 18 heading into half-time eventually pushing the lead to 22 twice in the third quarter.

Anderson's largest lead of the game came on sophomore's Hannah Hodges made jumper with a minute left in the contest. Coker's Shull drained a 3-point basket with less than 10 seconds remaining to set the final score at, 75-55.

EXTRA DRIBBLE
-Anderson's victory was the 9th straight over the Cobras pushing its all-time series advantage to 31-3.
-AU's Dillard became the all-time career rebounding leader that was previously held by 2007 standout Deidra Langston. Dillard also becomes only the second player to score at least 1,000 points and record at least 900 rebounds while donning the Black and Gold.
-On the season, the Trojans were 17-1 while leading at the half.

No. 3 Anderson will host No. 6 Tusculum on Wednesday for the quarterfinal round of the SAC Championship. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. at the Abney Athletic Center.
