Women’s Soccer Defeats Newberry in OT; 1-0

ANDERSON, S.C. – Anderson University women's soccer won an overtime thriller, 1-0 over South Atlantic Conference foe Newberry on Wednesday evening at Trojan Stadium.

With the victory, Anderson improves to 3-5-1 overall and 2-3 in SAC action while the Wolves fall to 2-8 overall and 1-5 in conference play.

After remaining scoreless during regulation play, the Trojans used just five minutes of extra time to claim the 1-0 victory over Newberry. Sophomore Melanie Maddox scored in the 95th minute off of a corner kick that curved just enough to score the golden goal for the Black and Gold.

Anderson outshot the Wolves 19-12 overall while dominating the shot total in overtime, 4-0. The Trojans also claimed a 3-1 corner kick advantage on the night.

Junior keeper Abby Helm tallied seven saves for the Trojans while Newberry's Jayleen Gant recorded 10 stops. Helm's 57 overall saves for the season ranks second in the SAC.

Anderson returns to action on Saturday when it travels to SAC opponent Lenoir-Rhyne. Kick-off is scheduled for 5 p.m.
