Trojans Drop Road Match at North Georgia

 

DAHLONEGA, GA. – Anderson University women's soccer dropped its second straight match, 2-0, against nonconference opponent North Georgia on Saturday evening at UNG Soccer Complex.

With the loss, the Trojans fall to 0-2 on the young season while North Georgia moves to 2-0.

After a scoreless first half, the Nighthawks took advantage of a penalty kick opportunity in the 57th minute with Renee VanHorn finding the back of the net to put North Georgia ahead, 1-0.

The Black and Gold finally succumbed to the Nighthawks offensive attack giving up a goal in the 86th minute of action. North Georgia's Daizah Patterson finished off a pass from Dani Shartouny to give UNG a 2-0 lead.

North Georgia outshot Anderson 27-5 for the game and held a 12-3 corner kick advantage.

Anderson junior Melanie Maddox and sophomore Gabbie Fleming took two shots apiece while freshman Maggie Black's lone shot was the only try on goal for the Trojans.

Anderson senior keeper, Abby Helm recorded one save while Madison Paige snagged five saves in the final 45 minutes. North Georgia's Hannah Goudy was credited with one save in her second win of the season.

The Trojans return to action on Wednesday when they host nonconference opponent Limestone. Kick-off is slated for 7 p.m.
