Queens Takes Home Men's and Women's Inaugural SAC Indoor Track and Field Championships
The Queens University of Charlotte men’s and women’s track and field teams both took first place at the inaugural South Atlantic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships on Monday (Feb. 19) at JDL Fast Track.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's and women's track and field teams both took first place at the inaugural South Atlantic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships on Monday (Feb. 19) at JDL Fast Track.
The Queens men compiled a score of 148 points, while the women totaled a score of 189. Wingate University was the runner-up in both the men's and women's championships as well with scores of 119.83 for the men and 134 for the women.
On the men's side, Queens' Elijah Inuwa was named the conference's Men's Track Athlete of the Year. Inuwa won the 800-meters with a time of 1:55.12, as the Royals swept the podium in the event. He also finished second in the one-mile run, an event that Queens also swept the podium in.
Carson-Newman University's Kris Potts-Howard won the Men's Field Athlete of the Year Award upon finishing second in the triple jump, third in the long jump and fourth in the high jump. Carson-Newman's Devon Moore was named the league's Freshman of the Year. Moore finished second in the 200 meters and second in the 60-meter dash.
For the women, Hannah Wolkenhauer of Queens was named the Women's Track Athlete of the Year after winning the conference title in the 3,000 meters with a time of 9:56.64, and the 5,000 meters with a time of 17:18.67.
Wingate University's Vanisha Wilshire won the Women's Field Athlete of the Year award after winning the high jump (1.71 meters), triple jump (ll.55 meters), and finishing second in the long jump.
Queens' To'mara Carmichael was named the Women's Freshman of the Year. Carmichael won the shot put with a throw of 13.45 meters and finished second in the weight throw.
Additionally, Jim Vahrenkamp of Queens was named the both the Conference's Men's and Women's Coach of the Year.
