Four South Atlantic Conference Schools Earn Top-50 spots in Fall Learfield Standings
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Following the completion of the fall sports, The South Atlantic Conference posted four schools in the top 50 and seven total member institutions in the Learfield Directors' Cup Fall 2017-18 standings. The Learfield Sports Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 14 sports -- seven women's and seven men's at the NCAA Championships.
Queens came in at No. 9 in the standings with 199.50 points, while Wingate closed out the fall at No. 15 with 171 points. Anderson posted 125 points to place at No. 33, ahead of Carson-Newman, who recorded 115 points to come in at No. 43 to round out the SAC schools in the Top-50.
Mars Hill finished at No. 124 with 31 points, while Lenoir-Rhyne and Lincoln Memorial both collected 25 points to place at No. 127 and round out the list for the SAC.
Fall Points:
Queens placed sixth in the country in men's cross country to earn 73.5 points. The Royals' women's cross country team picked up 51 points for its 23rd place finish at nationals, while the volleyball finished 33rd to earn 25 points. The Women's Soccer team placed 17th for 50 points.
Wingate volleyball turned in the highest finish as they led the Bulldogs with a 9th place finish for 64 points. while the Bulldogs also collected 32 points as it finished at No. 33 in the nation in women's cross country. Wingate also collected 25 points for it's 17th place finish in football and 50 points for a 17th place in men's soccer.
Anderson volleyball picked up 50 points followinga 17th place finish. The women's cross country team finished 30th at nationals for 44 points while the men finished 33rd for 31 points.
Carson-Newman women's soccer team turned in a season to remember with a second place finish at the NCAA Women's Soccer Championship to earn 90 points. The Eagles' volleyball team earned 25 points with a 33 place finish. Mars Hill's men's cross country team placed 33rd at nationals to earn 31 points.
Lenoir-Rhyne and Lincoln Memorial's men's soccer teams finished 33rd for 25 points apiece.
